Can’t Get Your Car To Start? Jump! Here’s How.

You can try to jump-start your automobile if it has a dead or weak battery. Have you ever attempted something like this? We’ll show you how to do it!

Even if you previously understood how to jump start a car, it’s easy to forget all the details, so to avoid appearing useless when requested to jump start a car, as well as to avoid shocking yourself while doing so, we’ve put up a step-by-step guide on how to restart a weak or dead car battery.

Make sure it’s the battery that’s causing your automobile to not start before you try to jump start it. If you turn the key and nothing happens, you probably have a dead battery; but, if you turn the key and hear the engine turning, you probably don’t have a dead battery.

Do not attempt to jump start your automobile if your battery is broken, leaking, or corroded; instead, contact an auto repair specialist.

In only a few steps, you can jump start an automobile with these helpful hints:

You’ll need jumper cables as well as a second vehicle. Keeping a set of jump leads in your trunk is a smart idea. Place both cars in neutral close to each other so that the jump lead may reach both vehicles when you open the bonnet.

Instead of jump leads, you may use a portable power pack, which can be quite useful and prevent you from having to rent another vehicle.

In both automobiles, turn off the ignition. Metal items should be kept away from the battery since they might generate a spark. Avoid wearing loose clothing in case it gets caught in moving components, stay away from open flames, and never smoke. Remove the key from the ignition and ensure sure the headlights and other electronics are turned off.

Connect one of the RED clips, or leads, to the positive terminal of your battery – it should say “POS” or “+” or be larger than the negative terminal – and the other red clip to the positive terminal of the other car’s battery.

Connect one of the BLACK clips to the functioning battery’s negative terminal. Attach the opposite end of the black clip to an unpainted metal surface away from the dead battery, such as a bolt or bracket. Use one of the hood’s metals supports to keep it open.

Start the engine of the operating automobile, making that the leads don’t contact each other or any metal surfaces, and that they’re away from moving parts.

Allow the engine to idle for a few minutes before attempting to restart your car. If the jump starts your car, don’t turn it off right away; instead, drive about for at least 15 minutes to replenish your battery.

Remove the jump leads in the opposite direction of how you attached them after you’re confident your automobile is ready.

If it still won’t start, double-check the wires, and let the assistance car run for five minutes before attempting to restart your car. If it still won’t start, it’s possible that your battery is beyond repair. Also, if the automobile starts but does not start the next time you use it, the battery has reached the end of its life and must be replaced.
