Is it advisable to compound or polish my vehicle?

How do you tell whether the paint on your automobile needs to be touched up? Paint correction must be used if your paint seems to have “spiderwebs” or “swirling,” as in the picture below. Compounding, polishing, or a mix of the two are your options for fixing automotive paint.

So, what’s the difference between the two?

A compound is a sort of polish that is harsher. This will allow for a deeper paint cut, but it will also leave behind its own little flaws. A polish has a softer cut and can typically erase most swirl marks from poor washing and drying, but not deeper faults or scratches. This makes it an excellent choice for when your automobile only requires a refresh to regain its gloss and shine.

A subsequent polishing procedure will be required to eliminate any faults or “hazing” caused by severe compounding and provide a mirror-like surface. After you’ve corrected your paint, use a good wax, sealer, or coating to protect it! Keep in mind that paint is thin and can only be polished a limited number of times. To avoid further damage, use correct washing and drying procedures.

Machine polishing makes use of the product’s strength, speed, and movement to completely work it into the paintwork of the automobile. A rotary traditional polisher is used in almost every car detailing service. The head of these rotary polishers revolves at a steady speed, removing little quantities of clear coat from the car’s paint in the process. This enables the machine to cut through the scuffs and defects on the vehicle’s clear finish.

One disadvantage of utilising a rotary machine polisher, as previously noted, is that if not used properly and at the correct speed, it may cause major damage to the car’s paint, including buffer trails, holograms, and even burning through the paint’s surface.
