Does my vehicle need a coolant flush?

A properly functioning cooling system circulates antifreeze/coolant through your engine and radiator, thereby significantly reducing heat levels generated by your car’s engine. Having said that, when your cooling system fails to operate at optimum levels, the temperature of your engine can get hot enough to potentially damage itself.

Simply put, your vehicle’s cooling system’s primary role is to cool the engine and maintain the right operating temperature and also keep it from freezing in winter. Which is why, your vehicle’s radiator requires routine maintenance to ensure it’s functioning properly at all times. Coolant flush will help to remove sludge and scale, and corrosion deposits that could prevent it from protecting the engine thereby resulting in costly repairs.

If coolant is left to deteriorate, it can affect your vehicle’s cooling system. Few warning signs to look out for:

  • Leaking coolant
  • Contaminants in the coolant
  • Steam coming from under the bonnet
  • Low coolant levels
  • Temperature gauge is heading up into the red zone
  • Sweet smell coming from under the hood
  • Warning Light is ON

If you notice any of the above symptoms, then it’s best advised to bring your vehicle to Smart Mechanics in Stansted to make sure you have proper coolant levels for a well-functioning cooling system.
